Strategic Collaboratives

The Texas Children’s Diabetes & Endocrine Care Center is committed to partnerships, programs and platforms that unite the diabetes community locally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Daniel DeSalvo serves as the Director of Strategic Collaboration.  We believe in the power of collaboration to advance our mission in supporting patients in an impactful way.

We welcome partners including those who desire to provide financial contributions to advance the mission and vision of the Texas Children’s Diabetes & Endocrine Care Center.  If you are interested in providing a gift to support the TCH Diabetes Center, please indicate “Diabetes & Endocrine” in your gift designation.

Our Success Stories

The T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative (T1DX-QI)

The T1DX-QI develops and disseminates best practices in type 1 diabetes (T1D) care. Texas Children’s was one of ten original T1DX-QI members starting in 2017 and the network has grown to over 60 diabetes clinics across the United States, treating over 100,000 people with type 1 diabetes.

Texas Children’s received the T1D Exchange Award for Outstanding Quality Improvement Team in 2020 and Dr. DeSalvo received the T1D Exchange Outstanding Pediatric Principal Investigator Award in 2023.

The collaborative has seen significant real-world success in improving patient care across member clinics, including:

  • Increasing access to diabetes technology
  • Improving mental health screening
  • Decreasing diabetes-related ketoacidosis (DKA) hospitalizations through a targeted diabetes wellness program
  • Developing programs to help patients with A1 over 9%
Texas Children’s winning team members included (l-r) Dr. Rona Sonabend, Dr. Sarah Lyons, Dr. Daniel DeSalvo, Curtis Yee, MPH, and Dr. Selorm Dei-Tutu.

American Diabetes Association’s Camp Rainbow

ADA Camp Rainbow is a medically staffed day camp for children with diabetes age 5-17.  Campers enjoy canoeing, archery, fishing, swimming, crafts and more!

Generosity

We are grateful for those who support the Texas Children’s Diabetes and Endocrinology Division:

  • One generous gift provided by a family allowed expansion of our Care Center to accommodate our growing clinical team and to enable us to effectively care for a growing number of children with diabetes.
  • Another recent gift provided essential diabetes management supplies not typically covered by insurance to underserved youth with T1D.
