Get to know Marni Elyse Axelrad, PhD
Dr. Axelrad's research and clinical interests are focused on family based behavioral treatment in preschoolers. She coordinates a research study examining the short- and long-term effectiveness of a brief parenting intervention (the Brief Behavioral Intervention) on improving children’s emotional regulation and reducing problem behaviors across settings. Dr. Axelrad also conducts research related to disorders of sexual differentiation and gender, and participates in research evaluating the development of individuals with various genetic syndromes (i.e. Costello syndrome, Robinow syndrome.
Clinically, Dr. Axelrad evaluates and treats disruptive behavior disorders in young children presenting with and without chronic/life threatening illness, focusing on improving young children’s ability to self regulate by focusing on parenting strategies and parent/child relationship. She also supervises the Brief Behavioral Intervention, a Parent Management Training clinical intervention program for preschool aged children with disruptive behavior disorders.
