Cognition And Behavior: Seizures May Spark Social Deficits

Inducing seizures in young mice leads them to show autism-like social deficits, as well as problems with learning and memory, according to a paper published in Experimental Neurology by Cain lab researchers. Researchers have long seen a link between seizures and autism. An estimated 1/3 of people with autism have epilepsy, and people with both autism and intellectual disability are more likely to have seizures. Up to 1/3 of people with epilepsy have autism.
