U.S. News Media Group ranks Texas Children's Hospital among leading pediatric institutions nationwide

HOUSTON - (June 3, 2010) - Texas Children's Hospital has been named as aleader among national pediatric hospitals in U.S.News World Report's 2010edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals. One of only eight hospitals inthe nation to achieve the Honor Roll designation, Texas Children's is the onlyhospital in Texas - and the entire southern region of the U.S. - awarded thisdistinction. The comprehensive survey ranks children's hospitals across 10 majorsubspecialties. For the second consecutive year, Texas Children's was ranked inthe top ten for nine out of 10 categories, and also earned Honor Roll status bybeing named as a best hospital in all of the 10 subspecialties surveyed.

As part ofthe new ranking system that U.S. News began in 2009, pediatric hospitals areranked across 10 major subspecialties, as opposed to being ranked overall. TheHonor Roll designation is reserved for those hospitals that ranked in all 10subspecialties surveyed.

The rankings are a result of a methodology thatweighed a combination of reputation, outcome and care-related measures such asnursing care, advanced technology and credentialing, among other factors. Thehospitals were judged based on a combination of opinions from pediatricspecialists about the hospitals they would recommend for the sickest childrenand data gathered in an extensive survey of the hospitals themselves.


"To consistently be distinguished as one of the bestpediatric hospitals in the nation is a tremendous honor," said Dr. Mark Kline,physician-in-chief of Texas Children's Hospital and chair of the Department ofPediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine.
