Three physicians join Texas Children's Urology Division and bring robotics, gender medicine and research expertise

HOUSTON - (Sept. 2, 2013) - Texas Children's Hospital is excited to announce the addition of three new physicians to the pediatric urology team, which is ranked #1 in Texas by U.S. News World Report. Dr. Chester Koh, Dr. Bruce Schlomer and Dr. Abhishek Seth have all joined Texas Children's Urology Division. This growth will allow for more convenient and expanded access to the expertise and care of patients with pediatric urologic diseases and disorders the Houston community has come to expect from Texas Children's. "I am thrilled to welcome these three new physicians to our team. In addition to being able to provide more convenient access to patients, their arrival will allow us to expand our research, helping to bring new treatments and techniques to the bed side, and provide minimally invasive surgery options through the acquisition of a da Vinci Si Surgical System manned by an expert in the field," Dr. David Roth, chief of pediatric urology at Texas Children's Hospital said.


Dr. Chester Koh is an internationally recognized expert in robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery in children. He has been instrumental in developing cutting edge techniques with both the laparoscope and the da Vinci robot, which Texas Children's Hospital recently acquired to help perform complex surgical procedures using minimally invasive techniques. Koh will be leading the Texas Children's Hospital pediatric program in robotics as he did at Children's Hospital Los Angeles/USC, where he spent the past eight years.


Dr. Bruce Schlomer has an interest in disorders of sex development such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia and will work in Texas Children's Gender Medicine Clinic. He brings with him techniques for addressing hypospadias and penile abnormalities. Schlomer completed his two year fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, where he spent a year focused on outcomes research.


Dr. Abhishek Seth completed his three year fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School where he spent two years in the basic science lab focusing on bladder regeneration and neurogenic bladder. Seth will continue the exciting research studying the epigenetics of bladder inflammation and will provide clinical support for many urologic disorders including neurogenic bladder, which coincides with his research.


The Urology Division at Texas Children's Hospital offers the most advanced surgical care for the most common pediatric urological needs, as well as genitourinary problems related to congenital birth defects, trauma and a range of other medical conditions. Texas Children's pediatric urologists have special expertise in minimally invasive/laparoscopic surgical techniques, including extremely delicate procedures in newborns and infants, anorectal malformations, urological conditions caused by neurological problems, such as spina bifida, and the management of stone disease.
