HOUSTON - (May 20, 2014) - Texas Children's Hospital is proud to announce the opening of TexasChildren's Urgent Care clinic offering high-quality, efficient and affordablepatient care in a convenient community location. For more information, visit urgentcare.texaschildrens.org.

"Texas Children'sUrgent Care was created to respond to the growing need for expert pediatricurgent care after hours," says Randall Wright, executive vice president ofTexas Children's Hospital. "Our clinic is conveniently located in your neighborhood,and available evenings and weekends, to continue our commitment to providingcare to all patients and families in the Houston community."

Texas Children'sUrgent Care is open Monday through Friday, 4:30 to 11 p.m. and Saturday andSunday, 12 to 8 p.m. The clinic is staffed by board certified pediatricians whohave privileges at Texas Children's Hospital. Pediatricians diagnose and treata wide variety of ailments, illnesses and conditions, including: asthma, strepthroat, fever, minor burns, influenza, ear infections, allergic reactions andmore. Procedures provided include: antibiotic injections, breathing treatments,fracture care and splinting, IV (intravenous) fluids, labservices, laceration repair and x-rays on-site.

Oftentimes,families turn to an emergency center after hours, on weekends or perhaps evenduring the day, when a significant event occurs with their child. Though theemergency center is the right place for some incidents or ailments, themajority of the time, minor illnesses can and should be treated at a pediatricurgent care facility.

Texas Children'sUrgent Care accepts major insurance plans and has self-pay rates, which areless than emergency center charges, and there are no hospital fees. A completelist of insurance plans is available on the website. Texas Children's UrgentCare specializes in after hours care, but does not replace the need for childrento have a general pediatrician. Routine physical exams and vaccinationsare services that should be obtained from a general pediatrician, andthese services are not available at Texas Children's UrgentCare.

Additionally, asecond Texas Children's Urgent Care clinic will open this summer.
