Texas Children's Remembers Dan Duncan

HOUSTON - (Mar. 29, 2010) - Today, Texas Children'sHospital is deeply saddened by the loss of a great friend, Houston businessleader and philanthropist, Dan Duncan. Together, Jan and Dan Duncan served ashonorary chairs of the hospital's Heal Sick Children campaign, acting astireless advocates and helping to ensure the success of the Texas Children'sHospital's Vision 2010 initiatives. In 2007, Jan and Dan Duncan made a record$50 million gift to launch the world's preeminent collaborative institute to studyand treat pediatric neurological disorders. The gift was given to support thecreation and development of the Neurological Research Institute at TexasChildren's Hospital, now the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological ResearchInstitute. The institute is the first dedicated facility to use amultidisciplinary research approach to understand the unique issues of achild's brain structure, development patterns and related diseases. Although he was a talented businessman and head ofa Forbes 500 company, what truly distinguished Dan was his life-long commitmentto the core values he grew up with in a small town in Texas. Dan was oftenquoted as saying: "True wealth is really measured in lives you touch, not inthe dollars you have."

Dan was the co-founder and chairman of EnterpriseProducts Partners and served as a member of the Baylor College of MedicineBoard of Trustees, as well as an Honorary Trustee of the Texas Heart Instituteat St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital. He is the dedicated husband of TexasChildren's board member, Jan Ellis Duncan, and a loving father of four andgrandfather of four.
