Texas Children's Hospital West Campus to sponsor KATY Aquatics free water safety event

HOUSTON - (April 26, 2013) - Texas Children's Hospital West Campus - Houston's first community hospital designed, built and equipped exclusively for children and the only 24/7 dedicated pediatric emergency center in the west Houston community - is sponsoring an educational water safety event hosted by KATY Aquatics on Saturday, May 4. The free Make A Splash event will take place at Cinco Ranch High School Natatorium from 10 a.m. to noon. Opening remarks from W.A. Meyers, Fort Bend county commissioner of Pct.3, will stress the importance of staying safe around water and how drowning can be prevented. In an effort to reduce youth drowning, a number of educational, interactive demonstrations are available for children of all ages and their families. The demonstrations include: free swim lessons/stroke school with certified swim instructors, proper lifejacket instructions, water rescue techniques, a CPR station, health fair, kayak rides, a meet and greet with the Skeeter's baseball mascot and Chick-Fil-A cow, and more.


The event will also feature representatives from the U.S. Army Corps, American Red Cross, Willowfork Fire Rescue and many other national and local vendors who will illustrate various types of water safety equipment.
