Texas Children's Hospital establishes endowed chair in honor of pioneer radiologist Dr. Edward Singleton

HOUSTON- (Nov. 5, 2011) - The Texas Children's Hospital Board of Trustees hasrecognized a physician's legacy and devotion of nearly 60 years to pediatricradiology by establishing the Edward B. Singleton, M.D., Chair in PediatricRadiology at Texas Children's Hospital. Dr. George Bisset III, current chief ofpediatric radiology at Texas Children's, is the inaugural recipient of theendowed chair and looks to use the endowment to further research and gainimportant resources in the field of pediatric radiology.Dr.Singleton was the first physician named to the medical staff of TexasChildren's Hospital in 1953. He served as chief from the radiology department'sinception in 1953 through 1995 and currently serves as chief emeritus. Inmemory of his son, Edward Newton Singleton, Dr. Singleton recently contributed$25,000 to the endowment which now totals $2,025,000.

Recognized for his unwavering pursuit of excellence in pediatric radiology,Singleton has garnered many notable awards in honor of his outstanding serviceand pioneering work in pediatric radiology, his dedication to excellence inadvancing the science of radiology and his love of teaching and mentoring.


Using the most up-to-date, technological imaging advances, more than 180,000procedures are performed annually at Texas Children's, making it one of the largestdedicated pediatric radiology centers in the country.
