Lori Armstrong announced as Texas Children's chief nursing officer

HOUSTON - (March 19, 2012) - Today, Texas Children's Hospital announced the arrival of Lori Armstrong, MSN, RN, as senior vice president and chief nursing officer. Armstrong will be responsible for strengthening the hospital's commitment to advancing nursing, education and research practices, and will help lead the nursing staff in delivering the finest possible patient care.


"A visionary leader, Lori brings more than 20 years of health care experience and thought leadership to Texas Children's Hospital," says Susan MacDonald, executive vice president of Texas Children's. "She will play an integral role in propelling our nursing program to the next level of excellence and is a great addition to the Texas Children's family."


Armstrong joins the hospital from New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Sloane Hospital for Women, where she served as the vice president of nursing and patient care services. Armstrong has also held key nursing leadership roles at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Carolina's Medical Center.

"This is a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to partnering with the nursing staff, managers and leaders to help support the hospital's mission and provide excellent patient care to the women, children and families in our care."


Armstrong has been published multiple times, presented at 50 workshops, lectures and presentations in the United States and Asia, and is the recipient of numerous professional awards. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and holds a Master of Science in health system administration from Queens University in North Carolina.

Armstrong will work closely with Mary Jo Andre, vice president of quality and interim chief nursing officer, to ensure a smooth transition into her new role.
