The Sleep Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus receives national accreditation

Press Release

HOUSTON - (Jan. 22, 2014) - The Sleep Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is excited to announce it is now accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) following an in-depth application process and onsite review late last year. For more information about The Sleep Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus watch this video.

To achieve AASM accreditation, a sleep center must demonstrate a commitment to providing quality diagnostic services and long-term management of sleep patients. The center must also meet or exceed all standards for professional health care which address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. In addition, the sleep center's goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

"It is an honor to be recognized with this esteemed endorsement," said Dr. Daniel Glaze, chief of Texas Children's Sleep Center and professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. "This accreditation further demonstrates our team's commitment to providing the best possible care for patients with sleep disorders."

The Sleep Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus specializes in the evaluation and treatment of children with sleep disorders, including difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and other disruptive sleeping behaviors like sleepwalking, night terrors and repetitive leg movements. The team also conducts pre-surgery observation of patients scheduled for tonsillectomies.

The Sleep Center at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus is now among the more than 2,500 sleep centers that have received accreditation, including Texas Children's Sleep Center located in the Medical Center and Texas Children's Cy-Fair Health Center.
