Get to know Chad Shaw, Ph.D.
Dr. Shaw is trained as a mathematical statistician. He has diverse interests in statistical genomics and biomedical inquiry spanning genetic association, molecular diagnostics, gene expression, multi-omics and clinical testing. He has worked in genomics for over 20 years. He has performed research in biomedical informatics through ontology analysis where his lab has made many contributions. He has contributed to the clinical application of genetic testing. His work in clinical translational bioinformatics includes pipeline development, systems for review and content management for reporting genetic variation to stakeholders and patients.
He has a longstanding interest in mosaic variation and its impact on human disease where he and his students have published significant research. Dr. Shaw led the development and analysis of an applied probabilistic model for the transmission of new mutations in human genetic disease. This work elucidated the dependency of recurrence risk on parent of origin, parental somatic mosaicism and paternal age. This fundamental contribution to human genetics was featured in many reviews and in the New York Times.
Dr. Shaw places an emphasis on biomedical domain understanding in all of his research. His team is currently engaged in methodologic research in sparse regression, NGS count modeling, annotation systems and causal modeling in genetic medicine.
