Texas Children’s operates mobile clinics to provide trusted, high-quality medical services to children who may not have the opportunity to receive health care.

Our mobile clinics travel to low-income, largely Hispanic neighborhoods to provide free/low-cost, comprehensive health care to underserved children.

    The clinics provide:

    • Well-child, sports and school physicals
    • Illness examinations
    • Vaccinations/immunizations
    • Non-emergency care
    • Hearing and vision screening
    • Laboratory evaluations
    • Assistance applying for public health insurance, such as Medicaid, CHIP and Harris Health Eligibility Card
    • Referrals to medical and social services as needed
    • Anticipatory guidance, injury prevention and nutrition education for children and families
    • Referrals to permanent and trusted medical homes

    During the school year:

In the summer, the mobile clinics provide free immunizations and free/low cost health care in many other areas of Houston.

On board each mobile clinic is a bilingual staff, including a Texas Children’s pediatrician, pediatric nurse practitioner, licensed vocational nurse and medical assistant.

    Our mission

The mission of Texas Children's Mobile Clinic Program is to provide underserved children in the Houston area with comprehensive health care and preventive education.

    Our goals are to:

    • Educate families about health insurance options
    • Explain to families the advantages of finding a permanent medical home for their children
    • Increase immunization rates in target areas
    • Reduce inappropriate ER use by increasing access to health care in target areas
    • Promote health education and healthy living in the communities served
    • Provide a learning opportunity for Baylor College of Medicine medical students and residents with a focus on barriers in caring for underserved children and the importance of reducing health care disparities
