Concourse Dedication Honors Tellepsen Family Gift Of $1 Million
Column unveiling at
Clinical Care Center celebrated family’s four generations of giving
HOUSTON – (Oct. 14, 2009) – The Tellepsen family, celebrating 100 years of
supporting and building the Houston
community, was honored on October 2 by Texas Children’s Hospital for
their donation of $1 million to the hospital’s
“Heal Sick Children” campaign. This gift, the latest in a
four-generation tradition of Tellepsen family giving and
involvement with Texas Children’s Hospital, was honored with
commemorative signage located at the entrance to the
concourse of Texas Children’s Clinical Care Center, now named the
“Tellepsen Concourse.”
The program included remarks by Mark A. Wallace, president and CEO
of Texas Children’s Hospital; Dr. Mark Kline, physician-in-chief at
Texas Children's Hospital; and Howard T. Tellepsen, Jr., chairman
and CEO of Tellepsen. Following the program, guests walked from the
Feigin Center to the hospital’s Clinical Care Center concourse for
an unveiling celebration where Wallace revealed a large
commemorative plaque on one of the concourse’s columns dedicated in
the Tellepsen family’s honor.
Three generations of the Tellepsen family gathered for the unveiling
celebration including June, Karen, Tom, Kathy, Tadd, Jennifer, Trent
and Andrea Tellepsen. Other VIP attendees included Texas Children’s
Hospital board members Jan Duncan, Holcombe Crosswell, Townes
Pressler, and Willie Alexander, as well as Larry Brookshire, Peter
Dawson, Randall Wright, Stan Marek, and John Scales, senior vice
president of development at Texas Children’s Hospital.
“The Tellepsen family has a 50-year legacy of partnership with Texas
Children’s,” said Wallace. “They set an incredible example for
others in our community, and we are privileged to have dedicated the
Clinical Care Center’s concourse in their honor.”
The Tellepsen family has been involved with and supportive of Texas
Children’s Hospital since the construction of its first building,
Abercrombie, in 1951. In addition to the family’s giving, Tellepsen
family members and their employees volunteer their time at the
hospital. Most recently, through the “Adopt-a-Floor” program,
Tellepsen volunteers provided hands-on help to patients and families
by distributing water, snacks and toiletries to people in the
hospital’s emergency room, and by creating original coloring books
for patients. In 2010, Tellepsen volunteers plan to renovate the
Emergency Center’s staff lounge.
Proceeds from the “Heal Sick Children” campaign support the
construction and launch of three new facilities: the Jan and Dan
Duncan Neurological Research Institute, Texas Children’s Maternity
Center and Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus. Funding also
supports essential programs and technologies, critical research, and
expands access so more children can receive they care they need,
which continues to make Texas Children’s a leading pediatric
institution.
