Mark W.
Kline, MD |
Only the third person in the hospital’s 55 year history to serve as
physician-in-chief, Dr. Kline was selected from a pool of top-tier
external and internal candidates.
Like his predecessor and mentor, the
late Dr. Ralph D. Feigin, Dr. Kline possesses a clear and dynamic
vision for the hospital and the department – one that will further
secure our positions as leaders in pediatric health care, research
and academics.
Dr. Kline has served as head of the Section of Retrovirology in the
Department of Pediatrics and chief of Texas Children’s Retrovirology
Service since 1997 and is president and founder of the Baylor
International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) at Texas Children’s
Hospital.
He is a world-renowned authority in
treatment, research and global outreach for children with HIV/AIDS
and has been instrumental in investigations of clinical therapies
that have radically changed the outlook for children with HIV/AIDS.
He has held a variety of national leadership roles, including chair
of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society International Affairs
Committee and past-chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics
Committee on Pediatric AIDS.
As a career-long veteran of Baylor College of Medicine and Texas
Children's Hospital, he has a deep-rooted understanding of the
culture and relationships that are vital to the success of both
organizations. And, as a prominent figure in his own right in the
global medical community, he brings a unique perspective to the
opportunities and challenges facing pediatric health care today.
